How does the Judgment Search work?
- The judgment search attempts to account for reasonable phonetic variations; however, it does not account for names that are misspelled in the official records.
-
The system supports:
- “Starts with” searches by looking for related names that start with the searched names (e.g. searching “Sun America” will return all names that start with “Sun America”).
- Phonetic matching to look for names that sound the same as the sought name (e.g. “Carl and Karl” or “Thompson and Thomson”) to return additional reasonable matches.
What are the search options available for my Judgment Report?
As demonstrated in the image below:- Traditional provides a wider net for name variations. This selection yields more potential name matches and allows the examiner to determine which names require more research.
- Strict provides a closer name match than our traditional search. This option is often used for common names that yield large results sets.
-
Exact Match only provides the results for the exact name requested. For:
- Last Name, the results will be limited to the last name of the individual requested.
- First and Last Name, the results will be limited to the exact first and last name requested. No close matches or potential matches will be included, such as those with no first name or only an initial provided as the first name.
- Business Name, the results will be limited to business names that match the requested search exactly. This is an option for businesses with common words in the name (e.g. Baltimore).
How long after the original order can an update be requested?
Customers have 90 days from the original order to request order updates at no additional expense. After the 90 days, one must Request a New Judgment Search .
What is a Judgment Update?
A Judgment Search Update will refresh the name search up to the current plant date. Judgment Updates are also known as datedowns or bring-to dates (BTDs).
